About Drew
I am fascinated and enthralled by each individual person’s relationship to music, and the beauty of my work is that I get to help you hone in on the things that will make you the musician that YOU want to be. Learning to play the guitar has been the most nourishing and exciting part of my life. It changed everything. My hope is to help others find that for themselves. Whether you are a total beginner or want to take your skillset and knowledge to the next level, I’d be honored to guide you along your journey. My job is to make your practice routine fun and make your strings sing.
I began playing guitar at 12 years old and knew right away that I had just begun a life-long connection to making music.
Education
Music Theory, Classical Guitar, and Composition at Yavapai College and San Francisco State University.
BA in Integral Studies at California Institute of Integral Studies
For the past 18 years I have been actively playing for live audiences in a wide range of bands and ensembles, learning the intricacies of many styles of music.
Some of these include rock, jazz, funk, bluegrass, classical, and metal. More importantly, I have learned to play in a way that engages listeners and leaves them wanting more. In addition to performance, I have participated in many studio sessions crafting EP’s and full-length albums.
The Space
I teach out of my house located in Southwest Berkeley, CA. Lessons are held in a detached studio in the backyard with a separate entrance from the house. This space is nestled in my cozy garden and is solely dedicated to music lessons. On sunny days we can even bring it outside! Teaching at home allows me to devote a full hour (or half hour) to each student rather than having to rush to the next lesson.
